MEET THE ARTIST

Hello, my name is Elisa Hodgson. I am a sophomore studying Graphic Design at Oregon State University, with a minor in Marketing.

I have had a passion for the arts from a young age, my grandmother being a driving force behind where I am today. She loved decorating her house with unique patterns and colors, painting everyday items to her own liking, and indulging in her love for art museums.

As the years rolled on, I started trying new mediums and exploring my artistic abilities. Up until high school, I had never taken any formal art classes, teaching myself most of what I know today in my free time. I took an introduction to both 3D Art and 2D Art my freshman year, allowing myself to dive into every medium I could. I struggled with specific techniques and mediums, having to re-learn how to implement it into my future artwork. But my passion for art didn’t let my struggles bring me down.
I practiced on my own outside of class, strengthening my development. Someone was once an artist who couldn’t draw faces or work with colored pencils, is now someone who successfully creates portraits of herself and her loved ones with Prismacolors. Now that I have started to find my voice and personal style through my artwork, it has become increasingly enjoyable to produce new pieces.

Some strengths I hold as a developing artist is my work ethic and skill in particular mediums. My strongest skills are currently in colored pencil and graphite, reflected as the chosen medium in my sustained investigation. I have been able to create deep color values and contrasts using both, a recurring element that emphasizes my style. As for work ethic, I always put my best effort into every piece I create, making sure to meet deadlines and produce the best I can.

On the side, I ran my own small business - Rainbows By Eli - where I made macrame rainbow keychains, earrings, and car hangers/ornaments with the goal of spreading joy and positivity. I worked on my small business for 4 years.

I value the power art holds, because as I have gotten older, it has helped me express my feelings, thoughts, and emotions when words were insufficient.

Currently, I am transitioning from traditional art to the digital world, as I pursue a degree in Graphic Design and Marketing. Throughout the remainder of my time at Oregon State University, I will explore digital mediums and integrate graphic art into my passion for business and the sports industry, with the goal of becoming a commercial artist or sports designer.

As I indulge in both the world of business and art with my current projects, I have been looking into pursuing a creative career in sports design and marketing, with a design/ visual art focus.
